In The Center: Where Sound Meets Stillness
Sef Kombo steps into that space with intent alongside Zola Marcelle…
There are moments in music where sound does more than move a room — it creates space.
With “In The Center”, Sef Kombo steps into that space with intent. Known for his deep, textured approach to Afro House, this latest release marks more than just a track — it signals the beginning of a new chapter, launching his imprint and defining a sonic identity rooted in rhythm, restraint, and emotional depth.
Zola Marcelle’s stunning vocals radiate through “In The Center,” effortlessly weaving warmth and depth into Sef Kombo’s production. The result is an instant hit—soothing, spiritual, and deeply resonant.

At Toyan Creative Studios, the opportunity to translate that sound into visual form wasn’t just a commission — it was a continuation of a creative dialogue that has been evolving over the years.

A Creative Relationship Built on Frequency
The connection between Toyan and Sef Kombo has always existed beyond surface-level collaboration. It sits in shared environments — dancefloors, studios, late-night conversations — where music isn’t just heard, it’s understood.
This long-standing relationship brings a level of trust that allows creativity to move freely. There’s no need to over-explain. Just direction, feeling, and instinct.
So when the brief for “In The Center” came through, it wasn’t about designing artwork.
It was about interpreting energy.

Designing the Inner Universe
The direction was clear, yet expansive:
Cosmic. Spiritual. Centred.
Not human. Not literal.
But something deeper — an exploration of movement around stillness.
The track itself is built on hypnotic percussion and a grounding vocal presence — a composition that feels both spacious and anchored.
The artwork follows this same philosophy.
At its core, a calm centre exists — a visual anchor. Around it, motion unfolds. Shapes, textures, and energy orbit with intention, not chaos. It reflects a kind of internal gravity — the pull towards balance, towards self, towards something unseen yet deeply felt.
This is not a portrait.
It’s a state of being.
An inner universe.
“In The Center” sits between the physical and the spiritual, a space of balance, presence and understanding and when Toyan launched his initial ideas of the creative studio. I really could see the coming of age of his work, and knew he was the right person to help bring my debut record into its full visual word. It was all built on trust and understanding”

Movement Around Meaning
What makes this piece resonate is its refusal to overcomplicate.
In a world where visual culture often leans towards noise, this artwork embraces restraint. It allows space for interpretation — much like the track itself.
There’s a rhythm to the composition.
A quiet tension between stillness and motion.
A reminder that not everything needs to be loud to be powerful.
This mirrors the essence of Afro House at its best — where groove becomes meditation, and repetition becomes connection.
A Shared Release, A Shared Vision
“In The Center” is more than just a debut on a new imprint — it’s a statement of intent. A stripped-back yet emotive record that centres around connection, tone, and depth.
And in many ways, the artwork reflects that same ethos.
Two mediums.
One message.
Sound and visual working in parallel — not competing, but complementing.
